what do you look for at the restaurant?
clean bathroom?

I look for all the usuals. The thing that makes me a regular, though, is staff that treats you as a friend. I would rather go to a smaller place with staff that treats you well and remembers you.

I look for a place where you can resort to something you know you always like. That way, in case you hate all the other menu choices, you can use that one.

I look for:

Quality food (good flavour, presentation, and it must be HOT if a hot meal and COLD if supposed to be cold - lukewarm never cuts it)

Nice atmosphere - clean, organised, homey

Reasonable prices

Friendly staff

The first thing I look for on a menu is what gets re-used from the day before.
For instance Montana's has their beef pot soup. They have a soup base but all the leftover veggies an cooked beef from the day before gets tossed into the soup the next morning. Obviously not from served plates.
If my hand sticks to the chair when I touch it, I will walk out.
If my shoes stick to the floor or carpet, I leave.
I usually can tell if certain menu items can be omitted from some dishes or not.
Definitely clean bathrooms.
How many different staff bring food to the table.
How food is brought to the table. I don't care that I don't get served first because I am a girl, but don't friggin stand behind my son with a tray of hot plates and serve from there.
If I get served my coffee with a spoon it it, I send it back after putting sugar in it. That way I know I got a fresh cup. I don't take sugar in my coffee. And if the server brings my cup holding it around the lip, it goes back too.

All that depends on the tip they get!
